about
“Give ‘em Hell” was written on New Year’s Day, six months after my Dad passed away. It’s about carrying on, and keeping alive a flame that burned bright in someone who believed in me by having the courage to believe in myself. My Dad and I were very close and he was always at my shows. One night before I stepped on stage he stopped me and said, “Give ‘em hell, kid.” Those words rang through my head then, and they still do now. The phrase has become a mantra to me, and the underlying message to me is to not hold back, give it my ALL. This song played a huge role in motivating me to be brave enough to record this album and share it with you :)
lyrics
Woke up to the light, shinin' right into my eyes
Took me a minute, before I realized
A new day, a new hope, had come
I’ll cheers to that chariot of fire, the sun
Because a new day is dawning
And I can hear you say
Give ‘em hell, kid
Every day
I am free, yeah, to dive into the ether
I’ll ride out on the breeze, with the horses and the leaves, from the trees
And I’ll pray every day to have the strength to be a believer
That I am ready, i am able, put my cards down on the table
River carry me away
Because a new day is dawning
And I still hear you say
Give ‘em hell, kid
Every day
May not have money for fancy things
Or sometimes even gasoline, but its fine
I put it all on gambling, a guessing game with destiny
But i work hard to keep luck on my side
So when i’m old and gray i can honestly say that i tried
To give my very best and let my fate decide the rest
Yeah that’s right
Because a new year is dawning today
Oh a new year is dawning today
I, and I still hear you say
Give ‘em hell, kid
